The Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE), which used to be called the Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering, is a private university in Tamil Nadu, India, close to Rajapalayam. KARE was started in 1984 by the Kalasalingam Anandam Ammal Charities. It has since become a research-focused school with many programmes in engineering, the arts, business management, and other areas. It is located near the beautiful Western Ghats, which makes it a peaceful place to study and do research.
The school is known for its wide range of engineering programmes, which include Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Master of Technology (M.Tech) degrees in Aeronautical, Biomedical, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, and more. The site has many modern features, such as a sports track, basketball and tennis fields, a football pitch, a large library with lots of books and a Wi-Fi network with a strong computer network to help students and teachers with their studies and research.
KARE has made great progress in research. With DST support, it built the National Centre for Advanced Research in Discrete Mathematics and now houses the advanced research IRC, which has high-tech tools for studying life sciences and materials sciences. Scopus gives the university an h-index of 75, and Taylor & Francis produces the Scopus-indexed magazine "AKCE International Journal of Graphs and Combinatorics." It also encourages growth in all areas through sports and cultural events, and it has set up a number of grant programmes to help students from low-income families and those who do well in sports.
The school has been re-accredited by NAAC with a "A" grade, and its engineering programmes have been approved by ABET. This shows that the school is committed to upholding high standards in both teaching and study. KARE also takes part in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) every year and gets good rankings in both the engineering and university areas.
The Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education is ranked between 801 and 1000 in the World University Rankings 2024 and between 151 and 200 in the Young University Rankings 2023. This shows that it is becoming more well-known and having an effect on higher education around the world.
