The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, located in Joka, on the outskirts of Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, is India's best public business school. It was the first Indian Institute of Management to open. It is an important part of India's business school system. It was founded in 1961 with help from MIT Sloan School of Management, the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation, and Indian business.

Regular MBA

Indian Institute of Management Calcutta Admission Process

1. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% for SC, ST, and PWD categories), from a recognized university.
Candidates in the final year of their bachelor’s degree program, as well as those who have completed the degree requirements but are waiting for results, are also eligible to apply.

2. CAT Exam

Candidates must appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT), which is a prerequisite for admission to the Post Graduate Program (PGP) at IIM Calcutta. The CAT exam is held annually, and candidates need to register for it through the official CAT website.

3. Shortlisting for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT)

After the CAT results are declared, IIM Calcutta shortlists candidates for the next stage based on their CAT scores, academic performance, and other criteria. The shortlisting process usually considers the following factors:

CAT Score: Weightage is given to the overall CAT score as well as sectional scores.
Academic Performance: Marks obtained in Class 10, Class 12, and graduation are considered.
Work Experience: Relevant work experience is taken into account.

4. Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT)

Shortlisted candidates are invited to participate in the PI and WAT rounds. These rounds are crucial components of the selection process:

Written Ability Test (WAT): Candidates are required to write an essay on a given topic within a specified time frame. This test evaluates the candidate's writing skills, clarity of thought, and ability to articulate ideas.
Personal Interview (PI): The interview panel assesses the candidate's communication skills, academic background, work experience, and overall suitability for the PGP program.

5. Final Selection

The final selection of candidates is based on a composite score that includes the following components:

CAT Score: Weightage is given to the candidate's CAT score.
PI Performance: The performance in the personal interview is a significant factor.
WAT Performance: The written ability test score is also considered.
Academic Performance: Previous academic records play a role in the final selection.
Work Experience: Relevant work experience is taken into account.

6. Offer of Admission

Candidates who are selected for admission receive an offer letter from IIM Calcutta. They need to confirm their acceptance by paying the required admission fee and completing the necessary formalities within the stipulated time.

Hostel
