About Us
Established in 1926 by the Madras University Act, Andhra University was envisioned to cater to the linguistic region of Andhra as a comprehensive residential teaching-cum-affiliating multi-disciplinary institution. Founded by Sir C.R. Reddy and later led by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as its second Vice-Chancellor, the university has played a pivotal role in education. Spanning 425 acres with 205 buildings, the campus boasts vast open spaces and a vibrant ecosystem against the scenic backdrop of the Kailasa Hill and the Bay of Bengal in Visakhapatnam.
Andhra University has been a stalwart in delivering high-quality education, contributing significantly to the national education mission. It has served as a catalyst for the growth and development of India, fostering unity in society. The university takes pride in producing successful alumni and noteworthy research outcomes. Notably, it has been honoured with five Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardees, two Padma Vibhushan Awardees, one Padma Bhushan Awardee, and five Padma Shri Awardees, with two recent additions in 2023, among its distinguished alumni.
Andhra University has been associated with notable figures in various fields, with Nobel laureate Sir C.V. Raman contributed to laying research foundations in Physics. Distinguished alumni include world-renowned statistician Prof. C.R. Rao, Dr. Neeli Bendapudi (President of Penn State University), Dr. G.M. Rao (Chairman of the GMR group), Justice Jasti Chalameswar (former Judge, Hon. Supreme Court of India), Dr. Prabha Atreya (Director, FDA, USA), and Suggu P Rao (Vice Chairman, Bank of America).
The university has been a trailblazer in higher education, introducing innovative programs that are the first of their kind in India. Currently hosting 58 departments, 16 specialised research centres, 188 ICT-enabled classrooms, state-of-the-art computer and GIS laboratories, and 76 seminar halls on campus, Andhra University provides extensive learning opportunities. It is recognized as one of the 10 universities in the country for support under the "Rashtriya Uchhatar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA)."
With a glorious journey of 98 years, the university has received accolades for its quality pursuits, being graded by NAAC in three cycles with a CGPA of 3.64 during the second cycle and 3.60 in the third cycle.

Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Andhra University has undergone a purposeful transformation in the last two years. The focus has been on producing human resources that are not only socially relevant but also industry-ready and globally connected. Leveraging its legacy of excellence, the university has achieved a distinctive milestone by forging collaborations in allied fields with the Tri Forces under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), Government of India. Additionally, the university has taken a pioneering step by establishing a centre for defence studies on its campus.

The admission process for Andhra University takes place in online mode. Fresh admission starts in the month of January of every year.
