About Us
Established on September 4th, 1978, Anna University is a unitary type university named after Late Dr.C.N.Annadurai, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The university specialises in higher education in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, and Applied Sciences, catering to the present and future societal needs. In addition to promoting research and knowledge dissemination, Anna University encourages collaboration between the academic and industrial sectors.
The University was formed by bringing together and integrating four well known
technical institutions in the city of Madras (now Chennai) namely,
Anna University underwent changes in its university type over the years. In 2001, it transitioned into an affiliating type university, encompassing all the Engineering colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu. Later, in 2010, it reverted to being a unitary type university. Subsequently, in 2012, Anna University transformed once again into an affiliating type university, bringing together all Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu to maintain consistent quality in engineering education.

The examination pattern of Anna University is simple and the most commonly opted examination pattern by online universities. The examination pattern of the university comprised two major components namely: internal assessment and end-term examination.
The internal assessments are conducted by the university to evaluate the learning of an individual according to the latest curriculum and it carries 20-30% of the total weightage that also includes the assignment, which is given to every student at the beginning of every semester. The end-term examinations are conducted to evaluate an Individual's overall theoretical understanding during a semester and these examinations carry 70-80% of weightage.

Anna University has a dedicated placement cell for assisting students in securing a good job and during the semester the university also organizes a few activities for upskilling the students and boosting their morale and personality, so that they can find a job on their own if they try to.
