About Us
Banasthali Vidyapith, founded by Pandit Hiralal Shastri, is the realisation of a dream he cherished since his boyhood. In 1927, Pandit Hiralal Shastri resigned from his prestigious post of Secretary in the Home and Foreign Department in the erstwhile Jaipur State to establish Banasthali Vidyapith. The remote village of Banthali (later Banasthali) was chosen as the centre for his life's work. His vision included organising a program of rural reconstruction inspired by Gandhi's principles and training public workers through constructive service.
While engaged in this work, Pandit Hiralal Shastri aimed to train his promising daughter, Shantabai, as a social worker dedicated to the upliftment of women. However, destiny had other plans. Shantabai, after a brief illness of a day, bid farewell to Banasthali on April 25, 1935, at the tender age of 12. Although her loss seemed irreparable, it sparked a new hope. The idea emerged that if one Shantabai had departed, there were others who could be trained similarly. This realisation provided solace and set the path for action at Banasthali Vidyapith.
Vision & Mission
Banasthali Vidyapith has been conceived to embody the ethos of nation-building and Indian culture. The entire foundation of Banasthali stands on the twin pillars of nationalism and Indian culture. Since its establishment, the institution has held a clear perspective on its educational efforts and has possessed a vivid picture of the form and pattern of the educational program to be adopted.
The visionaries behind Banasthali believed that an educational program should promote the development of a balanced and harmonious personality in students. Thus, the educational program at Banasthali deviated from the prevalent form of education that emphasised book learning to the neglect of other aspects. The Vidyapith's aim for the full and balanced development of students' personalities found expression in the form of 'Panchmukhi Shiksha,' which evolved from initial experimentation.
Panchmukhi Shiksha seeks a balance of the five aspects of education: Physical, Practical, Aesthetic, Moral, and Intellectual. It aims for the all-round harmonious development of personality.
The synthesis of spiritual values and scientific achievements from the East and the West is a key feature of Banasthali Vidyapith's educational program. Simple living, self-reliance, and khadi-wearing are distinctive aspects of life at Banasthali.
