Panjab University was founded in Chandigarh because India had to get a university back up and running after the split in 1947. In 1956, it moved to a campus that was carefully built for it. Pierre Jeanneret came up with the idea with Le Corbusier's help. The 550-acre campus of the university is known for its unique style of architecture. It includes the Gandhi Bhawan, a major landmark designed by Jeanneret, as well as many student and academic services, such as a central library named after Prof. A.C. Joshi and a museum of fine arts with important collections. It has a lot of different schools and has won the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy several times for its outstanding performance in intercollegiate sports. Similarly, Panjab University has a high ranking. It is ranked 44th overall in the NIRF rankings and holds important spots in fields like law, medicine, and engineering.
