The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) was founded in 1996 and has its main office in Mysore, Karnataka. According to the University Grants Commission (UGC), it is a well-known school for open and online learning. The goal of KSOU is to offer higher education to all kinds of people, even those who can't go to standard classes. There are now over 40,000 students at the university, which is run by 13 departments.
KSOU has many programmes for pupils, graduate students, and people who want to do study or get badges or awards. Bachelor's degrees in Arts, Business, Education, and Library Science are all offered as undergraduate programmes. Postgraduate programmes include both Arts and Business tracks. There are Master of Science studies in Math, IT, and Geography, as well as younger programmes like LLM and MBA. Under the Open University plan, people who want to do study can get M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees. Postgraduate certificate programmes also cover a wide range of topics, including Business Administration, Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, and more. There are also diploma and certificate programmes in a number of different fields.
KSOU has a restaurant, a guest house, a well-equipped library, study centres all over the state, and financial aid for students from low-income families. The university also gives prizes, cash gifts, and badges to students who do well.
However, KSOU had a time when its fame caused a lot of trouble. Starting with the 2012–13 school year, the UGC took away recognition from a number of its courses because they were found to have broken rules by doing things like setting up study centres outside of its control without permission and registering students in India and other countries without following the rules. Thousands of kids' chances of going to school were in danger because of this, which led to protests and court pleas. In 2018, 17 classes were re-accredited by the UGC thanks to work done by KSOU and orders from the Karnataka government and courts. But the degrees of students who entered during the de-recognition time were still not recognised. Some ideas for fixing this problem, like bridge courses and tests, have been put forward.
Right now, KSOU is offering many different academic programmes and has put in a lot of work to make sure it meets all the rules so that its classes are recognised and its students can safely work towards their academic and career goals.
