The University of Kashmir is a public state university in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. It was founded in 1948 and is surrounded by two lakes: Dal Lake to the east and Nigeen Lake to the west. Over the years, it has grown a lot. It now has satellite sites in Anantnag (South Campus) and Baramulla (North Campus), and more are being built in Kupwara, Kargil, and Leh to make higher education easier to get to in the Kashmir valley's more rural places.
The main school covers 247 acres and is split into three sections: the Hazratbal school, the Naseem Bagh Campus, and the Mirza Bagh Campus. More land was bought at Zakura to allow for even more growth. The quiet grounds of the university is a great place to study and do research. It has a main library called the Allama Iqbal Library that has more than 600,000 books, including 415 rare texts.
The University of Kashmir has a lot of different programmes. It has 12 schools, 47 academic departments, 21 centres, 36 colleges, and 6 recognised institutes. The Faculty of Law and the subject of Management Studies have some of the most students of any subject at the university. It also has classes in media, public communication, engineering, and many other fields.
The University of Kashmir was ranked #166 in the Asian University Rankings for Southern Asia in 2024. This shows that it is a well-known academic institution in the area. Also, the university is proud to have a "A+" grade from NAAC and to have over 16,000 students in more than 70 programmes, all of whom are helped by 408 faculty members. It has many student and graduate programmes in the arts, business and management studies, education, law, sciences, social sciences, medicine, dentistry, engineering, oriental learning, music and the fine arts, and more. The university is always coming up with new programmes to meet the needs of pupils and society as a whole.
