The University of Madras established the Institute of Distance Education (IDE) in 1981 to assist learners in achieving their educational, career, and personal goals. With over 25 years of service in the field of Distance Education, IDE offers 16 Undergraduate Courses, 22 Postgraduate Courses under CBCS Pattern (Approved by UGC No.F.1-6/2018(DEB-1),dated 03.10.2018), 19 Diploma Courses, and 16 Certificate Courses.

Admissions for all 73 programs at the Institute of Distance Education (IDE), University of Madras, are conducted throughout the year. Admissions are available in two streams: Academic Year Admissions and Calendar Year Admissions.

Step 6: While filling out the application form, students have to attach the required documents along with the application form.
Step 7: After filling out the application form and attaching all the required documents, the student must pay the fee for their selected courses and print out the application form for future reference.

Examination Pattern

The examination pattern followed by the Online programs offered at Madaras University is the most commonly opted examination pattern, which is comprised of two main components namely, internal assessment and end- term examination. The internal assessment carries a weightage of around 20-30% of total marks and it includes all the academic activities organized by the university throughout a semester the majority of marks under this category are awarded based on assignments, which are assigned to every student at the beginning of every semester, whereas end-term examination is conducted to evaluate a student's overall performance in an entire semester with the theoretical understanding of every subject under their enrolled program and it carries 70-80% of weightage.
