About Us
Established by an Act of Parliament (No. 8 of 2000), Mizoram University commenced its operations on 2nd July 2001. Situated in Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram, the university spans 978.1988 acres on the outskirts of the city. Before the establishment of Mizoram University, the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), headquartered in Shillong, operated a campus in Mizoram. The Mizoram Campus of NEHU, led by a Pro-Vice Chancellor, included seven Post-Graduate Departments: Economics, Education, English, Forestry, Mizo, Psychology, and Public Administration. Over the past 22 years, Mizoram University has witnessed substantial progress in terms of infrastructure, academic programs, manpower, and support services.
The University demonstrates its commitment to inclusivity by providing facilities for Disabled and Visually Challenged students and staff. The campus is designed to accommodate individuals with mobility challenges, featuring ramps for wheelchairs, as well as disabled-friendly washrooms in the hostels.
Engaging in various extension activities, faculty and students actively participate in initiatives such as the Red Ribbon Club, Techno Club, NSS (National Service Scheme), and SPIC MACAY- Heritage Club. Many faculty members and students are also involved in social services, some of which are integrated into the curriculum.
Recognizing the importance of a well-rounded education, the University encourages students to participate in sports and cultural activities. The Sports department, equipped with different coaches, supports students in their athletic endeavours. Regular participation in the East Zone Inter University Sports and All India Inter University Sports is a testament to the University's emphasis on holistic development through sports and cultural engagement.

Online education has become popular among students for its various benefits.
The university has designed a range of online educational programs to help students acquire expertise in various subjects. Certificates earned through these programs serve as valuable additions to a resume, enhancing students' prospects for career advancement. The online programs are categorised into Apprenticeship, Bachelor, Degree, Executive, and Certificate Programs, offering a diverse set of learning opportunities to cater to different educational and professional needs.
The Apprenticeship Program is on-the-job training where students can learn, work, and earn together. It is available via two B.Com courses in E-Accounting, and E-Commerce, and a BBA course in E-Business.
Master’s Degree Programs are post-graduation courses that impart in-depth knowledge about various sectors of a business that will make the students masters in their professional lives. The specialisation is in Marketing, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Big Data Analytics and Commerce (E-Commerce).
Executive Diploma Programs offer a one-year diploma course on aspects of Information Technology. These aspects are Application Development, the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Computer Applications.
Executive Programs are six months to one-year courses. These courses are related to essential management functions, giving comprehensive knowledge in General Management, HR, Finance, Marketing, Retail Operations, Banking & Finance, and IT. They even offer advanced courses within these functions.
Online Certificate Courses are three months courses where students gain proficiency in distinctive career skills like Computerised Accounting, Advanced Digital Marketing, Android App Development, GST etc.
Post-completion of the program students are awarded a recognized degree.
The Mizoram University accepts online registrations for the admission process. The admissions are taken on a direct basis and no entrance examination is conducted.
Following are the steps for the admission process at Mizoram University
Both types of examinations are conducted-internal as well as external. The internal examination consists of knowledge-based projects, and case studies, whereas the external examination includes theory exams. These examinations are conducted on Mizoram University's student portal designed for students in online mode. The university expects students to have all the necessary technical equipment like a computer, with a webcam and microphone, along with a reliable internet connection.
The university has a central placement Cell that was established in 2012 with the aim of offering excellent job opportunities to the recent students and alumni of Mizoram University. It helps in providing expert guidance and coaching to the students that helps students to get better industry exposure & training. It informs students regarding industrial career opportunities and other factors influencing it. The students also get advice about the interview and skills through pre-placement training, seminars, and workshops offered to the students.
